UNPLATZ!
Festival

UNPLATZ! is a project that activates public space through architectural installations and performative interventions. It focuses on the United Nations Plaza in Vienna Donaustadt, a place that gains a global dimension due to the UNO-City. The planned comprehensive renovation of the UNO buildings presents a challenge for project participants, employees, as well as federal, city, and local residents, but also offers the opportunity for a reevaluation of the urban situation.

The goal of the project
is to actively engage with this complexity in dialogue with the citizens. Through public discourse spaces and pop-up formats, the district community is actively involved in the use and interpretation of urban space. This creates new perspectives and opportunities for shaping how the UNO-City and its surroundings, in particular, can become a vibrant and livable urban space. The focus is not only on the physical transformation of the place but also on creating meaning and connection to the public as a fundamental  democratic pillar.

Choir conductor: Pavel Naydenov

What you have seen remains in the image
Students of the University of Applied Arts Vienna (David Tomasi, Lena Kopr, Tara Momeni, Sarah Pleier, Tina Moser, Lorenz Adlassnig, Elisa Wenz, Filip Grujic, Lina Marangattil, Sashi Turkof, Cansu Tandoğan) together with Lucie Strecker, demonstrate how they experience the UNPLATZ! and the thoughts, feelings, and actions this place produces.

SWEET MUSIC
Performance of 40th Mozart symphony artistically directed by Ksenia Nechay and played by the musicians: Sergey Demura, Anastasia Linderberg, Anastasia Katov, Fedor Shmelkin

UP:PLATZ
Our goal is to explore possibilities and create ambivalent conditions in the urban landscape
through interventions like ephemeral structures. This process highlights the movement
and elusiveness of historical, spatial, morphological, and social layers by maintaining shifted distortion conditions. By Nikola Joksimovic and Marvin Gronski

Signifier
Flags displaying terms such as ALLES, FÜR, GEGEN... and flags designed as the wings of angels (Angelos=Messenger) are staged by the artists Lucie Strecker, Arina Nekliudova and Milan Mijalkovic von Makedonien. The presence and handling of these flags in public space serve as a reminder of the fundamental principles of politics: taking a stand, expressing one’s own stance, and exposing oneself to change, i.e., showing the flag.

THE UN PLACARD
A large-scale projection by Julia Drees in cooperation with 4YOUREYE ProjectionArt
