SIRENEN

Grosse Stimmenverzahrerei

11. - 13. August 2023
MQ Sommerbühne

German Version Here

Nobody represents anyone. Then who speaks? Who governs? And who is who when nobody says anything? Where is the minority? Who is their representative? Is it the democrat? Is it a woman? Is it a child? Or is it you? Do you represent a group, the majority, nature, or even God? Then come and be (with us) silent.

What matters is your opinion. Even the bank says that. But what is your opinion about yourself? Does it match? Persuasion skills, hunting for votes... that style and neither art nor sport. The most democratic thing is self-talk. Speak up if something is wrong. Practice self-criticism. Did anyone understand that? Is that AI? If the intelligence is artificial, then artificial is  the problem too. The solution will be distorted. Who is to blame? It’s me. Who plays the servant? Who is the tyrant? What is wrong or right? Who is supposed to know all this? The confusion will destroy us. A picture does not speak more than a word. You are the message. Play along.

On the summer stage of the MQ a temporary library of contemporary speeches will be set up. The content of these speeches addresses the conflict between individual freedom and collective responsibility. Students from TU Vienna, the Angewandte Performance Lab, and the Institute for Language Arts at the University of Applied Arts Vienna will participate. Over three days, a performance will emerge through a participatory process.
