Black letters pressed tightly together so that the space between them almost disappears. No pause, hardly any distance. Yet two words remain legible: DEMOKRATISCH GEKREUZIGT (Democratically Crucified).

The monumental, 15-metre-long text banner confronts the crucifixion with the secular social system of democracy. This conceptual friction disrupts established patterns of thought and creates tensions between then and now, power and powerlessness, democracy and manipulation, law and arbitrariness.

In light of current crises and armed conflicts, this imposition takes on particular urgency. It calls for daring to dissent, questioning comfortable assumptions, and demanding individual responsibility within a collective that judges, votes, and decides together—over life and death, over peace and war.
