AFTER

Presented within the group exhibition The Day After (EDUCULT, MuseumsQuartier, Vienna, 2024), AFTER is a performative speech positioned between ritual, rhetoric, and resistance. The work confronts the condition of contemporary democracy and its linguistic distortions — how meaning erodes in public discourse and how public speech itself becomes an obligation or a reason for banishment.

With self-made masks that both conceal and amplify, the performance delivers a speech oscillating between irony and urgency, critique and confession. AFTER continues an ongoing exploration of performative language as a political and poetic medium.

The piece concludes with Das demokratische Lied — a song with a chorus of Bitte Danke (Please and Thanks) — a hymn to “democratic” politeness and the end of real dialogue.
